Both the automobiles of Tata, the Altroz and Punch are quite famous. Both of them are designed on the same ALFA architecture. So let us have a look at which among the two is a better off for the 2021 market. 


In the Tata Altroz vs Tata Punch comparison it is crucial to mention, design wise, both these cars look almost similar. While the first one is a premium hatchback, the latter one is a micro SUV.  

Initiating with the latest car here, the Tata Punch looks fresher compared to Altroz. This design looks more sturdy. This is because of its SUV silhouette and all around back cladding. Compared to that, the Tata Altroz looks urban friendly and stylish because of its hatchback silhouette. In a gist, the Tata Altroz design offers a more premium look than the tough looking Tata Punch. 

Features & Convenience

Both these vehicles arrive with easy and very similar equipment levels like auto headlights, projector headlamps, cooled glove box, rain sensing wipers, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, climate control, and many more. However, the Tata Altroz offers a bit more than Punch. It offers a bigger cooled glovebox, more premium ambient and audio lighting, and rear AC vents. 

However, Punch being a newer vehicle receives an automatic transmission as a choice and also gets a unique “Terrain Pro” mode for better traction on surfaces that are loose.


Now coming to the Tata Altroz vs Tata Punch dimensions. Measuring at 3990 x 1755 x 1523 mm (L x W x H), the Tata Altroz is 163 mm lengthier and 13 mm wider compared to the Tata Punch. Furthermore, the Tata Altroz provides 56 mm more wheelbase, which could change into more legroom for the rear passengers. Still, Tata Motors is providing the Punch with 25 utility spaces in the cabin and a longer 366-litre boot compared to the 345-litre boot in the Tata Altroz.


At present, the only engine that is available in the Tata Punch is the 1.2-litre “naturally-aspirated Revotron petrol engine”. This engine makes 84.48 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque at 3,300 rpm.

This engine is either paired to a 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) or a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Tata Altroz on the contrary arrives with 3 varied engine types. These engine types comprise of two petrol and one diesel engine.

Beginning with the petrol powered engines, the 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated Revotron petrol engine is equivalent to the one that is present in the Tata Punch, while the more powerful 1.2-litre turbocharged version generates 108.48 bhp and 140 Nm of torque.

While the diesel unit is a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder unit with 200 Nm of torque and 88.78 bhp. However, the Tata Altroz is provided only with a 5-speed manual gearbox.


Prices for the Tata Altroz begin from Rs 5.84 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base model of 1.2-litre Revotron, while the top-of-the-line model that is fitted with the same engine is veiled at Rs 8.70 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Even though Tata Motors is yet to announce the Tata Punch price, we can expect it to be valued at Rs 20,000 to Rs 35,000 cheaper compared to the Tata Altroz.

The Bottom Line

On paper, it is a close comparison between the two car offerings from Tata Motors. Since both the automobiles use the same ALFA platform, we predict the forthcoming Tata Punch to also receive a 5-star crash rating as the Tata Altroz received.
