Adar Poonawalla: Never Ruined The Indians For Covidshield Export

Adar Poonawalla, CEO of The Serum Institute Of India said that the company is scaling up their Covidshield vaccine manufacturing and is always prioritising India. Poonawalla while responding to the government’s criticism and the decision to start covid vaccine export said that the vaccines were never exported at the cost of the people of India. He also said that the company will continue to support the vaccination drive that is prevailing in the country. Let us see the recent Adar Poonawalla news

Till now The Serum Institute Of India has delivered nearly 200 million doses of Covidshield vaccine in India even though they received EUA (Emergency Use Authorization) 2 months later than the US pharma company and the company ranks among the top three manufacturing organizations in the world in terms of doses delivered. In a statement he said –

“SII has delivered more than 200 million doses even though we received EUA two months after the US pharma companies. If we look at total doses produced and delivered, we rank amongst the top three in the world. We continue to scale up manufacturing and prioritise India.”

He added that India being one of the two most populated countries in the world, such a broad vaccination drive cannot be expected to get completed within just two to three months. Poonawalla said –

“It would take two to three years for the entire world population to get fully vaccinated.”

In January 2021, The Serum Institute Of India had a lot of Covid-19 vaccines stocked up with them, and that was the time when the rate of affected people was not so high. At that stage it was believed by the health experts that India was turning the tide on the Covid-19 pandemic. But at the same time there were many countries that were facing an acute crisis of this pandemic and were in dire need for help. So help was extended by the government wherever required, Poonawalla said.

Since The Serum Institute Of India is a part of the global collaboration so to be a part of COVAX they had to provide the covid  vaccine wherever it was required. He also said that –

“The pandemic was not limited by geography or political boundaries and nobody could be safe until everyone globally was able to defeat the virus.”

Poonawalla also added that they hoped to deliver COVAX to the required countries by the end of this year. The alliance among countries formed enables SII to get access to the technology and aid to support healthcare in this coronavirus pandemic he pointed out.
