The CEO and co-founder of Twitter, Jack Dorsey on 29 November resigned from his position in the company completing nearly 16 years with the social media giant and the new Twitter CEO is Parag Agarwal. He was appointed anonymously as Jack’s successor.
The resignation of Jack Dorsey who had been leading Twitter as the CEO since 2015 will be brought into effect on an immediate basis. However, he will still stay among the members of the board till 2022 to allow the smooth transition. In a statement Dorsey said,
He also expressed his faith in the successor, in the new Twitter CEO Parag who joined the company in 2011 and was appointed as the CTO of the company in 2017. He further said that,
Before joining Twitter, between the years 2006 – 2010, Parag was associated with large scale management research with associations at firms like Microsoft Research, AT&T Labs, and Yahoo! Research.
As far as education is concerned, Agarwal has completed his B.Tech in Computer Science from IIT Bombay, which is among the top institutes in India. Later he completed his Ph.D. also in computer science from the Stanford University in California.
As the CTO in Twitter, he was responsible for the technical strategy of the microblogging site, conducting initiatives to improve the velocity of development and developing the state of machine learning throughout the company.
Before being promoted as the CTO, he had emerged as the first Distinguished Engineer of Twitter because of his successful efforts in consumer and revenue engineering. The audience growth re-acceleration in 2016 and 2017 is also considered among his contributions.

In the meantime, Twitter along with Agarwal’s appointment as the new Twitter CEO India declared that Bret Taylor who was a member of the company’s board since 2016, has been termed the Independent Chair of the Board which will be brought into effect immediately.
The company was established in 2006 and it has witnessed a steady growth where credit goes to the leadership among whom Dorsey is one. Since 15 October when he took over as Twitter’s CEO 2021, the shares of Twitter have risen cumulatively by 85% as per reports.
However, Dorsey has encountered criticism from some experts who believe that he has devoted more time to his previous company which is Square Inc., the digital payment company which was founded by Dorsey himself and has been leading as the CEO since 2009.
A few of Twitter’s investors over the last few years have questioned whether he can head the company efficiently while also leading Square.
