Google CEO Speaks On The New Jio Phone Launch

The CEO of Alphabet, Sundar Pichai views the upcoming Jio Phone launch of the JioPhone Next that has been co-developed by Reliance, as a “version of digital transformation” and is predicted to have a great impact in the country in more than three to five years time frame. 

Reliance on 25 October confirmed that the JioPhone Next which is one of the most awaited 4G smartphones of this year would be launching in India in the week of Diwali. 

This smartphone has been termed as the most affordable smartphone in the world. There are many JioPhone Next specifications. The JioPhone Next has premium localized features like the automatic read-aloud of screen text, translation of the language, smart camera that has augmented reality filters, and also voice assistance among many others. It is equipped with Pragati OS that is constructed on top of the Android Go operating system and is specifically created keeping in mind the Indian audience. 

While sharing his view on the Jio Phone launch at the earning conference of the company on October 26, Pichai said, 

"People are looking for access and there's definitely been a wave of people who have adopted smartphones. So, we see the demand for people looking to shift from feature phones to smartphones."

The news of the Jio Phone launch of their latest JioPhone Next was first announced by the Chairman of Reliance Industries, Mukesh Ambani, and Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google at RIL’s AGM (Annual General Meeting) on 24 June 2021. This launch took place after Jio Platform and Google entered into a commercial agreement to combine and generate an entry-level affordable Jio Phone 4G in July last year. Google had also invested $4.5 billion in the Jip Platforms and holds nearly 7.73% stakes in the company. The Jio Phone Next Flipkart will also launch it at an astonishing price. 

Pichai further added that,

"What excites me about the upcoming partnership with Jio in building a phone is really investing beyond just English and getting languages and getting the local needs right for people and doing it in a way that many more people can take advantage of a smartphone."

He asserted that India continues to be a happening market for Google and is expected to remain focused on that sector. He said,

"I view it as laying the foundation. India, just like the Asia Pacific continues to be an exciting market for us. We see strength across the categories we are involved in."

In 2020 July, Pichai had asserted plans to invest $10 billion in this country in the upcoming 5-7 years as an India Digitization fund. They will focus on the areas of the Indian market that will require digitization efforts. This investment and initiative include startups and Jio Platforms like InMobi’s mobile content platform Glance and Dailyhunt parent VerSe Innovation. 

During that earning conference call, the chief business officer of Google Philipp Schindler also asserted about the partnership of Google Pay with a Bengaluru based fintech firm, Setu that will allow the users to open FDs (Fixed Deposits) accounts directly from the application. He asserted that nearly 150 million people across 40 countries are now availing GPay to manage their transactions and stay up to date with their finances.  He said, 

"We continue to be very focused on helping both merchants and financial institutions create more intuitive digital experiences and connect with our customers. We think there's much more that we can do for both consumers and our partners.”

This phone has been termed as the most reasonable smartphone in the world that is equipped with quite a number of features. The new Jio Phone launch 2021 booking will start from the week of Diwali, but the JioPhone Next launch date is not confirmed yet.
